Well this week marks six weeks since being put in a cast for multiple fractures and torn ligaments in my leg and ankle. It has been a long sore six weeks.
I went to the doctors Wednesday (7-11-12) for my six week check up and x-ray's. I was hoping the I would be starting physical therapy and on the fast lane to walking again. Sadly this is not quite all true. After the results from my X-ray's I found out that one of my ligaments in my ankle has not fully healed, and the fracture near my knee is also not healed fully. So It will be atleast another month before I can even think of starting physical therapy. But on a good note I'm now in a walking cast and can bare some weight for short periods of time. It is quite painful and have only been able to do vary minimal amounts of walking. My foot has been stuck in a 45° angle for 6 weeks but to wear this cast my ankle is now at a 90° angle. When getting fitted for this cast it felt like I was rebreaking my ankle. I'm so glad my doctor perscribed more pain meds for me.
I've been given light ankle exercises to start losing up the ligaments in my ankle by attempting to do the alphabet with my ankle movements. This is again, as you can image quite painful and creates a fair amount of swelling. I am only able to move my ankle no more than a quarter inch in any direction at the most. I really want to get back on my feet but I know if I push it ill only make things worse.
